Mrs Tweedy’s occasional diary

Down there off the High Street and overlooking Tweed Green is the Tweedy Tearoom, the only tearoom in Peebles serving no-nonsense industrial strength tea in traditional aluminium teapots, and sausage rolls that stay with you long after other foods are forgotten.

When you’re tired of fluffy milk and fruity infusions that taste like lawn clippings, head across to the Tweedy Tearoom for our traditional surly Scottish service. Firm straight-backed chairs and sensible formica table tops set the tone in the Tweedy Tearoom, where you can drink your tea, eat your scone and head home again without the need for pointless pleasantries or conversation.

Mrs Tweedy’s weekly diary is required reading in Peebles, and here we publish some extracts from this long-established commentary on life in a small town.
